Taking Up Space
Business & Innovation
The Vega C Launcher System is the ESA’s newest space-going avionics design and one which will assist SpaceX in its endeavour to provide low-cost space travel to agencies worldwide.
Set to be launched from Europe’s Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana in 2019, there’s still plenty of work to be done on the Vega C before it’s ready for blast-off, and that’s where the Dublin arm of cutting-edge electronics systems experts Curtiss-Wright comes in.
Innovators in their field, they have developed a cost-effective Space COTS telemetry system, a high-level data acquisition, data handling and radio frequency transmission mechanism that will facilitate an expected demand of four flights per year for the Vega C.
The two-year, multimillion-euro contract secured by Curtiss-Wright from Italy’s European Launch Vehicle (ELV) SpA is just one example of how Irish operations are being viewed by foreign investors as world-class.
Ranked 8th most innovative country in the EU, Irish talent, expertise and technology infrastructure is recognised and valued by the international business community.
Indeed, the international community looks to the country’s talent, track record, technology infrastructure, as well as its competitive corporate tax rate, and ranks it the 8th most innovative country in the EU. This spells great things for leading investors such as ELV, as well as the five of the top 10 companies on Forbes’ list of The World’s Most Innovative Companies who already operate here.
