Origin Green

17 March 2022

For consumers across the world, there are increasing expectations of verified sustainability credentials for the food they buy. The growing international demand for sustainable sources of ingredients presents excellent opportunities for Ireland to showcase Origin Green, Ireland’s national food and drink sustainability programme.

Origin Green is the worlds' only national food and drink sustainability programme, and has played a crucial role in maintaining Ireland’s reputation for food and drink that is sustainably produced by people who care. The programme has more than 300 company members and 53,000 farmers, representing over 90% of Ireland’s food and drink exports.

To date, Origin Green verified member companies have set just under 2,800 sustainability targets, demonstrating their commitment to improving the sustainability and environmental footprint of their businesses and offering consumers real sustainable choices.

Origin Green also provides Irish exporters with that third-party verified record that their customers increasingly demand and plays a pivotal role in protecting the sustainability credentials of our food and drink industry on the international stage.

The agri-food sector remains Ireland’s most important indigenous industry, and the further sustainable development of the sector is a priority for Bord Bia and the Irish Government.

It is wonderful to be able to reconnect and strengthen relationships as we return to more in-person events this St. Patrick’s Day, enhancing Ireland’s reputation, visibility and influence, engaging with new and existing customers.
